Captcha
By Darrell on Mon Jan 14 2008 00:46

Just a quick update - I've decided that the registration process for comments isn't working out - several people have requested their passwords as they forgot what they set.

There is now a primitive captcha in place to complete, not that I expect any automated comment spam or can protect against it, but I thought it would be fun to learn how to make one.

So, I'm going to drop the table that held your registration data - no need for username/password anymore! :)

Spam. Spam spam spam. No really. Spam. Lawlz ;D Nice work...what are you using to do Captcha - Python library?

Just the python imaging library to overlay the text on the image. It's a pretty straightforward captcha, at some point I can try to figure out rotating letters and putting noise over the top ... doesn't seem a lot of point though as the bots are pretty good at them.

Darrell-kun - cool dude, those ideas sound good. I think they'll help stop the spammy spam bots :) The bots can't be too good at them if they're complicated enough, I suppose, otherwise Amazon etc. would have already stopped using captchas. Ascension-kun! Oh yeah, I was going to do that, wasn't I! I think I kinda got side tracked by ... errr ... ah yes, DVDs, sports and beautiful Japanese women :D Sorry - I'll get to it ASAP.
